OPP OF THE DAY: West Midlands Volunteer Police Cadet Leader

How the Citizens in Policing Team support this role, we will;
• Support the overall function of the scheme
• Recruit, train and place new Cadet Leaders within units
• Act as the point of contact for the Force Lead, Gold Commander, oPCC and WMP and other forces
• Ensure policies and procedures relating to the scheme are regularly updated
• Provide regular training and share opportunities to develop Cadet Leaders
• Manage the administration of the scheme
• Arrange speakers/inputs in partnership with the Unit Commander
• Schedule termly meetings with the Unit Commanders to share ideas, best practise and discuss challenges
• Collate all safeguarding concerns/issues for the Designated Safeguarding Lead and escalate to the relevant authorities/departments

A West Midlands Volunteer Police Cadet Leader is expected to undertake the following role and associated responsibilities in line with their role.

Role
• To manage, supervise and lead the Cadet sessions
• To ensure the on-going welfare and safeguarding of the Cadets
• To manage and supervise the Cadets with external activities

Responsibilities
• Regular attendance of at least 2 out of 4 sessions
• To familiarise themselves with the lesson plan and the activities assigned to deliver a session
• To review the term timetable and plan lessons for the sessions where a lesson plan does not currently exist
• To plan, create and share resources drawing upon your skills and experience to support other Cadet Leaders
• Identify behavioural changes/safeguarding concerns and to bring this to the attention of the Unit Commander
• Support the Unit Commander in collating consent forms for activities
• Relay information about external activities/consent forms in the Unit Commander’s absence
• Support the Citizens in Policing team and the Unit Commander in organising external activities
• Deputise for the Unit Commander in their absence
• Submit availability for each term in a timely manner to the Unit Commander
• In the event your availability to attend a session changes, to notify your Unit Commander and the CiP team as a priority to ensure suitable cover can be found
• To undertake a uniform check at the beginning of each cadet session to ensure the Cadets comply with the dress code.
• To maintain discipline and good behaviour during sessions, to enforce the Cadets Code of Conduct
• To work as a team outside of usual session times to support planning of and attendance at trips and community engagement activities within the community.
• Any other voluntary duties that are required of the role.
