What will you be doing?
Transporting our members to and from our support groups at an agreed date and time. Warmly greeting passengers to make them feel welcome and comfortable and secure in the vehicle.
Purpose:
To support our members to get to and from our support groups.
When and Where:
Ideally, we would like volunteers to be able to support members to come along on a regular basis to our groups. Drivers would need to commit to one of our groups to attend weekly or bi-weekly.
Our groups are:
- Every Monday 10.30am to 12.30pm (except Bank Holidays).
- Every Tuesday 10.30am to 2pm.
- First Thursday of every month 12noon to 2.30pm
- Second and Fourth Thursday of every month 10.30am to 12.30pm
What you could get out of it:
- Gaining experience of volunteering with people with physical disability.
- Gaining experience of volunteering with people with communication difficulties.
- Positive impact of making a difference to the lives of people and families who have been affected by stroke.
Skills:
- A person of integrity is required.
- A full driving licence, with access to a suitable car which has a valid MOT, tax, and appropriate insurance.
- Reliability.
- Listens well.
- Respectful and thoughtful.
- Makes a commitment of his/her time.
- Communicates effectively.
Other information:
- Our volunteers and clients are important to us so we take great care to ensure that we recruit and train the right people, with this in mind we conduct all necessary recruitment procedures including asking our volunteers to complete an application form, following this we will carry out a DBS check and request two references.
- Checks of driving licence, car suitability, current MOT and insurance documents required.
- Attendance at all elements of mandatory training.
- To operate within Dudley Stroke Associations policies and procedures
- Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
