OPP OF THE DAY: Fundraising Volunteer – Events Helper, Samaritans

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
To deliver local events as part of a team to raise money and awareness for the local Samaritans branch.

POSITION AND SUPPORT IN ORGANISATION
Accountable to: Branch Fundraiser – Events Manager
Liaises with: Events Manager, Branch Fundraising Coordinator (BFC), Fundraising Department at Samaritans Central Office (SCO)
Works within a team of: Volunteer Fundraisers

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Help prepare local Samaritans fundraising events and assist during the event itself. Tasks will depend on the nature of the event.
• Make sure that members of the public receive a friendly welcome and are looked after.
• Appropriately signpost people to local Samaritans services if required.
• Undertake any training deemed necessary by the Events Manager.
• Comply with fundraising regulations (e.g. making sure collecting tins are sealed).

APPOINTMENT AND TIMESCALES
• There is no set term of appointment, though an annual review is good practice.
• Commitment will depend on the nature and timing of events.

LOCATION, TRAVEL & EXPENSES
• Location will depend on where the event is taking place
• Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with the branch expense policy.

RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS
• The post is advertised as appropriate
• Interested volunteers can apply by completing an application form within the set deadline
• An interview will be held
• Attendance at an information session
• All new Samaritans volunteers should complete the Induction Module of Samaritans Initial Training 1 (SIT 1)
• Appropriate induction and training specific to the role will be arranged
