Helping you to help others.

OPP OF THE DAY: Community Events Volunteer, The R.S.P.B. Sandwell Valley

Help us help our local community, by spreading the word about RSPB Sandwell Valley, and leading fun activities!

RSPB Sandwell Valley is an enchanting urban green space located in the middle of a vibrant and diverse community. We have lots to offer: fun, educational activities for families, trails to exercise or relax, and opportunities to gain skills and confidence through volunteering and more. We are looking for volunteers to help us reach out to local people and share their love of nature.

You will attend local venues (museums, children’s farms etc.) and community events, as part of a small team. You’ll be chatting to people, inspiring them about nature and RSPB Sandwell Valley. You’ll deliver fun nature-inspired crafts or activities such as making bee homes or leaf crowns.

Your time
Minimum: 1-2 days a month
Duration: ongoing
Period: Throughout the year

What’s in it for you?
Opening people’s eyes to nature and helping them enjoy their local green spaces is very rewarding! You will be making a meaningful difference in your local community and support the work of RSPB Sandwell Valley.
You will be part of a friendly team of like-minded people and get a chance to discover new events and venues in the local area.
You will gain valuable skills and experience, including communication, publicity, people engagement, working with families and networking. You will receive one-to-one support and have opportunities to learn and develop if you wish to.
You will also have a valuable experience of working with an environmental charity. The RSPB is an active and exciting conservation charity, the largest in Europe!
This is an excellent chance to make a positive contribution to the wellbeing of local communities in Sandwell, and to help support and promote RSPB Sandwell Valley.

You will have the option to volunteer on regular days (e.g. same day each week / fortnight / month) or flexibly, as suits you. All the training necessary and background information will be provided and we will cover your travel expenses.

Skills:
We are looking for an enthusiastic people person! If you enjoy meeting new people, striking up conversations, and are able to engage with people of various ages and backgrounds, this is the role for you.
Full of initiative and reliable, you need to be comfortable working with members of the public. We need you to be able to work in small teams, and have an interest in wildlife or the outdoors.
If you have some knowledge of wildlife or the local area, it’s great! If you don’t though, don’t worry: we can help you pick this up after you start.
Some previous experience of working with the public is desirable but not necessary.
