OPP OF THE DAY: Ad-hoc Outreach Volunteer, Medaille Trust

Medaille Trust supports and empowers survivors of modern slavery, trafficking and exploitation. We do this in a number of ways, from offering safe accommodation, to offering support both in our safehouses and out in the community on our Moving on Projects. Our work also includes advocacy and awareness raising in the UK as well as an entrepreneurship academy in Albania, which provides meaningful alternatives to those who may otherwise be at risk of exploitation. All our work embodies a commitment to personalised support, recognising the dignity and agency of our service users and empowering them on a path to a life that is free from slavery and exploitation.

West Midlands Moving on Project supports female survivors of modern slavery, trafficking and exploitation.

As part of the Moving on Project, we support and empower service users in the community. This can be to link them in with community activities, health and wellbeing activities, as well as learning opportunities.

An opportunity has arisen for an Ad-hoc Outreach Volunteer who can assist our service users to attend appointments and meetings in order for them to be able to access other services, including supporting them to access public transport.

This would suit someone who wants to gain volunteer experience in the anti-slavery sector but is unable to commit to something on a more regular basis.

We are looking for an Ad-hoc Outreach volunteer to help support service users to attend appointments in order for them to access other services. Tasks and skills will include:

• Building rapport
• Attending appointments with service users
• To support them to access public transport either by accompanying them or support to access it themselves
• To provide support at the appointment, such as note taking if appropriate
• To arrange an interpreter if necessary
• Showing awareness of service users’ varying physical and mental well-being needs
• To provide feedback and safeguarding concerns to Local Coordinator – reporting any observations or concerns in a timely manner
• To take part in regular supervision and support
• To regularly attend volunteer or staff meetings
• To attend training as and when required including health and safety, boundaries, safeguarding, manual handling and confidentiality
• To work within agreed professional boundaries at all times
• To provide a safe and non-judgmental environment that promotes the core values and ethos of the Trust, in accordance with the Medaille Trust Policy, Data Protection Act, and Health and Safety Regulations.

This role is restricted for females under the Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 and is subject to ongoing satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service checks.
