OPP OF THE DAY: Activities Volunteer, Dudley Stroke Association

What will you be doing?
Doing activities with our members as part of our groups e.g., card making or other crafts, enjoying board games, supporting in information sessions, taking part in physical activity.

Support with making refreshments and setting up and clearing venues as required.

Purpose:
To support our Community Stroke Support and Review Officer in delivering our group sessions.

To support our members to actively engage in group activities.

When and Where:
Ideally, we would like volunteers to be able to come along on a regular basis, committing to one of our groups to attend weekly or bi-weekly.

Our groups currently are: (Please note these may change to meet the needs of our service)

  • Every Monday 10.30am to 12.30pm (except Bank Holidays).
  • Every Tuesday 10.30am to 2pm.
  • First Thursday of every month 12noon to 2.30pm
  • Second and Fourth Thursday of every month 10.30am to 12.30pm
  • Support at our allotment throughout the week Monday-Friday.

What you could get out of it:

  • Gaining experience of volunteering with people with physical disability.
  • Gaining experience of volunteering with people with communication difficulties.
  • Positive impact of making a difference to the lives of people and families who have been affected by stroke.

Other information:

  • Our volunteers and clients are important to us so we take great care to ensure that we recruit and train the right people, with this in mind we conduct all necessary recruitment procedures including asking our volunteers to complete an application form, following this we will carry out a DBS check and request two references.
  • Attendance at all elements of mandatory training.
  • To operate within Dudley Stroke Associations policies and procedures
  • Bus fares and reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
